Should humans be concerned about the pace of extinctions of organisms that are not directly related to our survival? Why or why not?
Every organism somehow plays its crucial role in the environment and ecosystem in which it live. Human beings completely depend on nature for survival, and every orgainism present in nature has direct or indirect impact on us due to its role in environment. We may not directly depend on an organism, but if we trace the dependence of organisms, we will find that every organism has its role in our survival.
According to Paul Ehrlich's Rivet-popper theory, let a plane is an ecosystem, rivets which join different parts of plane are the species. If we are moving in the plane, and every passenger takes one rivet of plane with him. Then, one day, the whole plane will get destroyed even the passangers sitting in the plane.
Hence, survival of each and every species is important for us. And hence, human beings must be concerned about the pace of extinction of species whether they are directly related to our survival or not.
