CO2 - Carbon dioxide
A Chemical Compound which possess one carbon and two oxygen atoms with a formula of CO2. It is obtained in a large mass during Carbon cycle. It is a green house gas and found in earth's atmosphere in a small extent. It is referred as dry ice in its Solid state.
A. Main Function of Carbon dioxide
Carbon dioxide plays an eminent role in a concept of global warming. At normal temperature and pressure it will be a colorless and odorless gas, which increases the temperature of the planet without letting it cool. At the time of photosynthesis it is a food stuff for plants. It is obtained through respiration and it is used for the pH regulation of the blood.
b. Biofuel molecule
Carbon dioxide emission occurs while burning of biodiesel like fossil fuels. It is a major green house gas. Using Sunlight absorption of carbon dioxide by photosysnthesis process in the mode of sugar and starch mode. The biomass gets transformed to biodiesel, when it is burned energy and carbon gets discharged from the biofuel.
GHG responsible for climate change and global warming
Climate change and global warming are the prior hazard for the humans, flora, fauna and agriculture. The earth's temperature gets increases when the concentration of the green house gases increases. This results in the bad effects on crops, causes glaciers melting and the sea level raises, finally floods and droughts. The main green house gas is Carbon dioxide and fossil fuels are the major responsible for the carbon dioxide emissions. The increase in the carbon dioxide level is too much in the recent years. The global temperature has been increased about 0.8oC in 100 years. Major plants has the ability to devour carbon dioxide. They reserved this carbon dioxide in the mode of biomass.
c. Food molecule
During Photosynthesis, Carbon dioxide and water gets converted in oxygen and glucose. In food industry, the use of carbon dioxide is for fizzy drinks and maintaining the freshness in food.
d. reactant in fermentation
For Ethanol fermentation, Carbon di oxide is used as a reactant with a mixture of Carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the form of syngas.
