. What are some of the main nutritional concerns facing a vegetarian athlete? Do you think this is healthy way to eat for sport performance? Why or Why not?
Some of the main nutritional concerns facing a vegetarian diet include
1. The diet is not having creatine protein required for muscle development.
2. The diet is insufficient in essential mineral like zinc, iron, calcium that is required for athletes in high amount.
3. The diet is insufficient in vitamins like vitamin D, vitamin B12.
No, I think this is not a healthy way of sport performance. As. Athletes required high amount of B12 that is provided by some vegetarian diet such as soy food but that are not sufficient as required by athlete body. Similarly, vitamin D is present in the sunlight that can taken by vegetarian. Vitamin D is not present in sufficient amount in any vegetarian diet. Hence, athletes have to take the vitamin D for good performance from non vegetarian diet.. Similarly, high amount of iron, calcium are required by athlete body for development of bones and body are not provided by vegetarian diets.
