Explain why Adam Smith’s presumption of human homogeneity is inconsistent with a theory of abstinence in which some individuals are more impatient than others, and under what assumptions can classical economic thought rationalize “Eugenic Sterilization” as policy intervention that maximizes the wealth/income of a nation/economy
Adam Smith's presumption of Human Homogeneity refers to the concept of fullfilling basic necessity of the benefits to be shared by all the Common People in the Society. Here Homegeneity with reference to the Wealth is treated as a fine parameter to distributing the Wealth equally to all the People who have common characteristics and the Way of Living.
He specified in his book ‘An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations" (1776) about the Nature of the Human Homogeneity lies with the Welfare of the State. If All Common type of people are gained benefit through accumulated Wealth then the State Economic Welfare is achieved. Monetary benefits can be calculated only by the subjective fullfilled feelings of the of the People, not by any Accumulation of Ornaments and other coslty items.
But in Contrary, The Theory of Abstinence tells the maximum utility of the society is rested with the future prediction of benefits. Unless Human Homogeneity was observed with the current value of accumulated wealth to be used for purpose for all the common man in the Society. But the Theory of Abstinence have pre-written parameters of experiencing the benefit only in the Future. Apart from calculating the real value of using Factors of Production like Land, Labour, Capital and Organization in the current condition, The Theory of Abstinence calculated only for the Future Benefit. For example the theory considers only the cost of production sources on present situation rather than calculating the future value of the output and services. Hence The Theory of Abstinence does not gained any practical implications in relation to Economic Model.
The Following assumptions of reasons were discussed here of rationalizing the Eugenic Sterilization as policy intervention in order to increasing the opportunity of accumulation of the Wealth and Income in the Economy.
1) In the beginning of the 18th Century, There was the huge class distinction and the strong race determination between White People and the Black People. So all People of White Americans belong to Lower and Upper Middle Class People. White People also had their origin from Germany, France, UK and other European Countries and settled down in US in order to get Job Opportunity. The Native People of US also settled predominantly in US. It was the mixed society of both Black and the White People. But While People (from other countries who settled earlier in the US) are considered themselves as Superior Group People. So the Eminent Kind hearted People from the Weaker Section formed the Eugenics - The Formation group who believed in the quality and Equality between all the Group of People and also protected the interest of the People who have real Origin in the US..
2) And also Eugenic movements propagaged one indifferent idea that More the Children they gave birth, The more Progressive Status will be achieved in the Society. This was predominantly considered as one among the assumptional factor contributed much to frame the policy of "Eugenic Sterilization".
3) Eugenic method was considered as the Genetic Engineering. They assume that people of certain group will have disorder of mental illness. Their Negative way of thought embraced many Eugenic method to have children only with the Full Mental Growth. They dont have such awarness that Less-previliged Society can also give birth to the Healthy Child. So this assumption point is the main reason for rationalizing the Eugenic Steriliztion for the betterment of the Wealth distributed equally in US.
