The so-called primitive equations comprise a set of six variables and six equations, specifically the gas law and three conservation laws: mass, momentum and energy conservation.
a. Can you write down the equations (use any mathematical form and any coordinate system of your choice) along with short one-two line explanations (in plain English) for what each equation encapsulates?
b. Explain the meaning of the “Coriolis Force”, where this enters in the primitive equations, how and to what extent this alters the equations, and the implications.
c. Explain briefly what the meaning of these terms, how they are caused, and what impacts they have: Hadley Cell, Hydrostatic Balance, Geostrophic Wind, El Nino and La Nina phenomena.
