It is now common to find MRSA and other resistant microbes in the hospital. How would these likely appear on a Kirby-Bauer plate?
a. There would be sensitivity
b. There would be no zones
c. There would be no growth
d. There would be large zones
Option B - There woould be no zone is the correct answer.
Kirby bauer plate is a disc diffusion method used to check the susceptability of the bacteria towards the antibiotic.it is a antibacterial susceptibilty test.
A suitable medium like mueller-hinton agar is taken and the bacteria is inoculated into the agar.after that the antibiotic disc dispensor is placed in the agar.
when the bacteria is susceptable to the antibiotic a zone of inhibition is formed.
Zone of inhibition represent the inability of bacteria to grow around the antibiotic disc.More the diameter of the zone of inhibiton more wil be the inhibition.
MRSA is methicillin resistant staphylococcus Aureus is a resistant bacteria which produce hospital acqquired infection.
MRSA are resistant to almost all type of antibiotics.so when the MRSA is placed in the kirby bauer plate ,it will not show any zone of inhibition .it means that the MRSA is not susceptable to the antibiotic and it is resistant to the antibiotic
