The type of gene editing depicted in the movie Gattaca remains fictional, but we are closer and closer to that reality. Suppose this becomes a reality - how do you think that will affect evolution of humans? In what ways will gene editing as depicted in the movie affect human evolution? In your response, you need to reference components of the evolutionary theory we covered in class and make your argument based these concepts.
Answer: GATTACA is a science fiction movie focused upon the gene editing/genetic engineering to make the best human breed which have much smarter than current human breed. Genetic engineering, somatic cell nuclear transfer can challenge the evolution . Major concern in genetically modified organism is that it causes the less speciation and diversity of species(animal as well as plant). Speciation or diversity is due to the adaptation to the environment and more adaptation is important to survive in the coming environment conditions. In this case of evolution, species would have the favourable traits. Genetic editing will lead to the less diversity in species, that make the human less favourable for survival. Evolution was helped in creating the species of wide spread variety by natural selection and selective breeding.
according the evolution theory of natural selection, the organism who will fit, grow to maturity, reproduce well will go for further human creation, this called the "survival of the fittest".
