When obtaining user requirements for Computer integrated Manufacturing (CIM) application design, how can you avoid capturing those requirements that are needed only to enable process workarounds already in use?
Hi,
CIM is the integration of the total manufacturing enterprices through the use of integrated systems and data communications coupled with new managerial philosephies that improve organisational and personnel efficiency. It is the manufacturing approach of using computers to control the entire production process. This integration allows individual process to exchange information with each other and initiate actions. It is a way of thinking and solving problems. Here are some benefits of CIM:
The computer has had a substantial impact on almost all activities of a factory.CIM is an example of the implementation of information and communication technologies in manufacturing .
Here the problem is the workaround ,which means to work around a problem, issue or roadblock often carries a negative connotation.Workarounds are typically used in conjunction with technology, but when we take a deeper look,we see that they actually impact business process that may not relate to technology at all. Many workarounds circumvent a problem or issue by taking steps to avoid rather than address it.When you need results quickly the path you takeand the issue you encounter along the way are not as important as getting to those results.Inordr to avoid it a conceptual design of CIM can be used.it consist of individual systems thta fullfill the required capabilities,an overall architecture incoperating the system and comminication links and migrating path from the current system architecture. The following techniqyes are used:
The manager must identify the short-term goals of implementing a CIM.Top management establisg long term goal for the company and envisions the general directions of the company .The middile management then create objectives to achieve this goals. Upper management sees the focus as being very broad, whereas the middle management must have a more narrow focus.
Through the integration of computers ,manufacturing can be faster and less error prone, although the main advantage is the ability to crete automated manufacturing process.
Hope you help this..
Thank you....
