I need a clear explanation with illustration / instances on the first Agile Principle that states "the highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable software”.
Ans: To clearly explain this first agile principle, we will be decoding it and see what each word stands for and how they are related to form an agile principle:
1. Highest Priority: The team should prioritise what remains most important for them as an organisation. The aim is not to get distracted and remain focused on what is most important and what are the strategic areas of importance.
2. Satisfy: Satisfy means going above and beyond the expectations of your customers and the stakeholders. Satisfaction creates commitment and highest user acceptance.
3. The customer: The customer is all those entities and individuals who are using the product and therefore efforts should be made towards active user involvement.
4. Early delivery: The software has to be delivered early to the customers so that they can provide insights into the areas of improvement in the form of feedback and will result in customer loyalty.
5. Continuous delivery: The delivery should not be treated as one short affair but one that shows results on a regular basis.
6. Valuable Software: The software should be valuable in the eyes of the customer and should create a value proposition for him/her.
Example: Software is delivered by Agile Software Ltd which creates active user involvement and is delivered on a yearly basis and the customer is satisfied with the product and the continuous support from the team. The aim of the first principle is nothing but to satisfy the customer.
