Pick one of the following terms for your research: Moral philosophy, justice, white-collar crime, differential association, or power.

DEFINITION: a brief definition of the key term followed by the APA reference for the term; this does not count in the word requirement.

SUMMARY: Summarize the article in your own words- this should be in the 150-200 word range. Be sure to note the article's author, note their credentials, and why we should put any weight behind his/her opinions, research, or findings regarding the key term.

ANALYSIS: Using 300-350 words, write a brief analysis, in your own words of how the article relates to the selected chapter Key Term. An analysis is not rehashing what was already stated in the article, but the opportunity for you to add value by sharing your experiences, thoughts, and opinions. White Collar Crime

Since it was initially coined in 1949 by sociologist Edwin Sutherland, who called it "the crime of respect and a high standard of social standing in their profession," white-collar crime was synonymous with educated and wealthy people. "According to the FBI," one of the leading investigative agencies for such crimes is characterized by misleading, hidden, or trusts offenses

For instance, white collar violations are securities fraud or misappropriation or corporate fraud and theft. By comparison to the FBI, white crimes are committed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the National Securities Dealer Association (NASD) and government agencies. Crime of the White Collar is non-violent theft that helps the victims financially. It involves misrepresenting the accounts of a corporation for tricking regulatory authorities and others. Many infringements provide deceptive opportunities to invest, which escape low or non-existent future returns and risks.

Objective

High profile individuals who are prosecuted in recent decades for white collar crime include Ivan Boesky, Bernard Ebbers, Michael Milk and Bernie Madoff. The so-called Nigerian scams are modern internet-friendly crimes that help transfer large amounts of money via fraudulent e-mail requests. Many crime definitions include crimes perpetrated by a person to help themselves only. Yet the FBI explains, for one thing, the crimes committed in businesses or States, for example the large-scales fraud. Nonetheless, one of the Department 's top compliance targets is business crime. That not only poses "strong financial threats" to investors, it "has the potential to significantly damage the US economy and the confidence of investors."

Such lending was among the kinds of financial misdoings that resulted in the financial crash and lacked adequate collateral. The Bank of America acquiesced in charging and accepting $16.65 billion in penalties.Corporate fraud often involves cases where one or more employees of a company operate to the detriment of investors or other parties. Insiders' cases are especially notorious when individuals act on data which are not yet publicly accessible or reported to anyone, and which may impact share prices and other business appraisals before it is released.
