QUESTION 1
Are nursing hourly pay in Tampa, Florida lower than in Dallas, Texas? The data is shown below:
Tampa: sample mean = 39, sample standard deviation = 6.2, sample
size = 42
Dallas: sample mean = 48, sample standard deviation = 6.3, sample
size = 33
Provide the test statistics value for the analysis.
QUESTION 2
The director of a green energy company is interested in
comparing two different methods of installing solar light panels.
An experiment is conducted with 41 technicians using the old method
and the other 46 technicians using the new method.
For the 41 technicians using the old method, the average time was
543 minutes with 77.9 standard deviation.
For the 46 technicians using the new method, the average time was
473 minutes with 100.2 standard deviation.
Conduct an analysis to determine whether there is a difference in
the average time to complete the installation of the solar panels.
Provide the degrees of freedom.
QUESTION 3
We are interested in studying whether Private Colleges costs at least $15,000 more than Public Colleges. This is to run an advertisement campaign to promote more high school students to consider public colleges to save at least $15,000 in tuition a year. See the excel file CollegeCosts for the random samples showing the annual cost of attending private and public colleges. Data are in thousands of dollars. What is the p-value for this hypothesis testing.
Hint: This is a challenging question. It is indeed a t-test 2
sample unequal variance question. But the hypothesized mean
difference should have been “15” because the question wants to
analyze: "We are interested in studying whether Private Colleges
costs at least $15,000 more than Public Colleges.”
Since the data is in thousands, we would enter in 15 for the
hypothesized mean difference.
Answer 1
Thus, the hypothesis test can be performed assuming equal variance.
At 0.05 significance level, there is enough evidence to conlcude that the average nursing hourly pay in Tampa, Florida lower than in Dallas, Texas.
