1-what tests can be used to detect Listeria monocytogenes?
2- ?Treatment – common resistances and alternative treatments – mechanism of action? for L. monocytogenes?
(1)Anton test is commonly used for testing Listeria monocytogenes. This test involves growing of the bacteria by isolating fluid from the infected individual in vitro.Listera species are grown on media such as Mueller-Hinton Agar.Isolation can be enhanced if tissue is kept at 4°c for some days before inoculation into bacteriologic media. The motility at room tempreature and hemolysin production are primary findings that help differentiate listera from other bacteria.
(2)Treatment of Listera commonly involve use of penicillin and Ampicillin whereas Trimethoprin-sulfamethoxazole can be used for penicillin allergic individuals.
Penicillin act on Listera by binding proteins of Listera (29-CCM-A)present on the cell wall which prevent cross linking activity and preventing new cell wall formation, thus exposing bacterial cells to external harsh environment.
Another method of treatment is Uses of Bacteriophage Listeria phage 100 as food additive which induce lysis of bacterial host cells by infecting them.
