The CEO of the business would like to upgrade their accounting system and have hired you as a consultant, to develop/acquire the necessary systems. Current staff are wary of change and are do not seem too pleased about a new way of doing things. The CEO has warned you about this and has asked you to help with minimising user resistance.
As a consultant, which Systems Development Life Cycle stage/s would you refer to prior to acquiring a suitable accounting system for this new business?
Would the online nature of their business impact on your decision?
What would you do to help minimise user resistance?

System Development Life cycle is a process of developing a new system that runs into phases. These phases include:
- Initiation (Identifying the opportunity)
- System Concept development (Eveluate the scope and feasibilty study of the prospective project)
- Planning and requirement analysis ( Plne for acquiring resources and other inputs required)
- Design and development (Developing the required system)
- Integration and test ( Trial run and testing before final implementation)
- Implementation (Implementing the system after testing succesfully)
- Operation and maintenance (Day to day maintenance activities required for operating the system effectively in long run)
Development of any new system requires the organisation to go through with each and every phase of the system development life cycle. Hence, in aboe case also, as opportunity has been identified of making the accounting system that can help the company in taking the orders and receiving payments online. Noe, detailed analysis of the tareget population, requirements of the software, cost and benefit analysis, etc. are required before working on it. After that, other phases of cycles starting from design and development to operation and maintenance can be making affected if the same gives the expected results.
Online nature of business will also required to go through each and every phase of the system development life cycle.
For minimising user resistance:
- Proper training should be given to employees and they should be make aware of its long term benefits
- Incentives should be given to the employees on using the system effectively
- Ultimate customers/ passengers should also be given free trips/ discounts in begining to attract them towards online route
- Proper customer care services should be provided to guide the people when they face any problem while using the system
