how would I calculate 2.5 mL of 1-bromobutane to moles? (density 1.27g/cm3, molar mass 137.02g/mol)
Given: Volume of 1-bromobutane = 2.5 ml
Density = 1.27 g/cm3
molar mass = 137.02 g/mol
number of moles = mass of 1-bromobutane / molar mass of 1-bromobutane
To calculate the mass of 1-bromobutane: Density = Mass/ Volume
So, Mass = Density * Volume
= 1.27 * 2.5 (g/cm3) * ml
1cm3 = 1 ml
So, mass = 1.27 * 2.5 = 3.175 g of 1-bromobutane is present in given volume
Number of moles = 3.175 g / 137.02 g/mol = 0.023 moles of 1-bromobutane are present in given volume
