Use military time in calculating the completion time of the following IV flow problems. The doctor orders 1 L D5W to infuse at 150 mL / hr. The nurse starts the IV at 0900. At 1100, the doctor decreases the rate to 100 mL / hr. Starting with the amount of IV fluid left at 1100, calculate the new infusion time and the completion time of the IV. Write your answers as 2 comma separated numbers for infusion (in hours) and completion times (military time) (e.g. 5, 2030)

Solutions

Expert Solution

1 litre to infuse at 150ml/hr.

infusion started at 0900. after 2 hours the doctor changed the order to 100ml/hr.

The remaining fluid at 1100 ie after 2 hours of starting infusion is 1000-300(because infusion was 150ml per hour so total infusion in 2 hours is 300ml) = 700ml.

the remaining fluid is running at a rate of 100ml/hr . so, it will take 7 hours for infusion to finish and finishing time would be 1800.

hence, answer is 7,1800.
