1.Calculate IV completion using standard time. (Express your answer using whole numbers. Round to the nearest minute.)

An IV started at 5:40 a.m. that has an infusion time of 9 hr 45 min.

2.A dosage has been ordered at 4 mcg/kg/min using a 400 mg/250 mL solution. The body weight is 94.7 kg.

what the dosage  mcg/min?

what flow rate  mL/hr ?

3.

In IV fluid abbreviations, D10NS identifies what IV fluid?

a.The abbreviation D10NS identifies a 0.1% dextrose in water solution.

B.The abbreviation D10NS identifies a 10% dextrose in water solution.

C. The abbreviation D10NS identifies a 10% dextrose in normal saline solution.

D. The abbreviation D10NS identifies a 1% dextrose in water solution.

E.The abbreviation D10NS identifies a 0.1% dextrose in normal saline solution.

4.A patient is admitted and an IV of 1000 mL D5RL is started. You are asked to adjust the flow rate. You will use what type of clamp to do this?

5. A patient is admitted and an IV of 1000 mL D5RL is started. Later an IV antibiotic is ordered for the patient. This is sent from the pharmacy already prepared in a small-volume IV solution bag.

The setup used to infuse this medication is referred to as ______ a peripheral line a central line a primary line an IV piggyback .

6.

List the components and percentage strength of the IV solution.

D20RL

7.List the components and percentage strength of the IV solution.

D10 ¼S

How is this abbreviated?

8.

A patient is admitted and an IV of 1000 mL D5RL is started. All roller clamps on the IV tubing are closed before connection to the solution bag. Why?

a. to temporarily stop an IV without disturbing the flow rate

B.to prevent air from entering the tubing

C. to prevent the solution bag from spilling

D.to set the flow rate

E.to count the drips falling in the chamber

Q1. Completion of iv timing--

Provided started at 5:40 am and infusion time o hr 45 min

5 hr 40 min + 9 hr 45 min = 14 hr 85 min = 15 hr 25 min(85 min means 60 min +25 min = 1 hr 25 min)

From 12 am as after 12 hr 12 pm starts,

15hr 25 min means (15-12) =3 hr 25 pm

Then completion time will be = 3:25 pm

Q2. a) So the body wt is 94.7 kg

Dosage will be= 4 mcg/kg/ min × 94.7 = 378.8 mcg/min

b) 400mg/ 250 ml means = 400× 1000 mcg/ 250 ml = 1600mcg/ml

Now the 94.7 kg wt patient needes 378.8mcg/ min so the flow rate will be ( in ml/ min) = 1600/ 378.8 =4.223 ml/ min

Now the ml/ min will have to convert to hour/ min then we have to multiply with 60

The the flow rate will be= 4.223 ×60 ml/ hr=253.4ml/ hr

Q3. C) D10NS abbreviated as 'D' for dextrose, 10 means here the percentage or strength of dextrose and NS means normal salaine

So the option is C ) the abbreviation D10NS identifies a 10 % dextrose in normal solution

Q4.here the Roller clamp is being used to do iv.

Using roller clamp we can regulate, stop or start the infusion

Q5. the setup is known as IV piggyback

Q6. D20RL means or abbreviated as 20% dextrose in ringer lactate soltuion

Q7.D10 1/4NS means 10% dextrose in 0.25% normal solution

Abbreviation: D stans for dextrose, 10 is the 10% strength of dextrose, 1/4= .25 and here this is the percentage or strength of NS(normal solution)

Q8.roller clamps are closed before connection to solution bag because of B) to prevent air from entering the tubing

Because if we don't close the clamp it will cause a negative pressure which leads to formation or entering of air bubbles in the tube.so if it keep close when it is connected with solution bag it doesn't creat negative pressure
