If you had a stock of 1.5 M sodium chloride solution and you needed to make 1 liter of 0.5 M sodium chloride , how would you make it? Show by picture , calcs and a sentence.

Solutions

Expert Solution

                Initial                                    Final

     M1 = 1.5M                                 M2 = 0.5M

     V1 =                                           V2 = 1L

            For dilution M1V1 = M2V2

                                V1= M2V2/M1   = 0.5 x 1/1.5 = 0.333 L

                         Volume of water added = 1 - 0.33 = 0.67 L
