Eunice consumes Coki, a leading cola brand, exclusively. She claims that there is a clear taste difference and that competing brands of cola leave an unsavoury residual taste in her mouth. However, in a blind taste test, Eunice is found to prefer generic store-brand cola to Coki eight out of ten times. Evaluate the results of Eunice's taste test?
Generic store-brand cola and a leading cola brand Coki both are similar when you pour in a glass. However, there are minor differences - in blind taste tests, most people will get confused to identify which is which. This is what Eunice did, although she likes Coki but in a blind taste test she preferred generic store-brand cola to Coki 8 out of 10 times. Generally, soda drinks can be differentiated from each other on the basis of it's flavor, intensity, sweetness and aroma. In our case, Coki and generic store-brand cola may taste quite similar, but their flavors are not exactly the same. Some people find the difference and some may not. The second parameter of taste is its intensity, i.e., soda's flavor, whether it is smoother or strong to swallow. The third parameter is its sweetness, whether it contains more or less sugar. The last parameter of taste is its aroma, smell it when you are drinking or pour it in a glass to feel the aromatic differences by your senses. On the basis of above parameters, if Eunice had tasted both the drinks then she might be able to find the difference. She needs to be very careful while tasting both the drinks. But she is unable to find the difference. She found generic store-brand cola more tastier than Coki, it may be due its sweetness, strong or smoothie flavor. Like Eunice, everybody is facing the same problem when they are on a blind taste test. Everybody differs in their sensory evaluation, so it is very difficult to get a clear and an accurate opinion about the taste of various soda beverages.
