Based on what you know about anole morphology and the process of adaptation via natural selection, do you think it is possible for a generalist anole to be as adept as each of the specialist anole ecomorphs at living (for example: climbing, running, hunting, etc.) in the different island habitats? In other words, do you think it is possible for a single anole species to be as good at living on twigs as the twig ecomorph anoles, and as good at living on trunks as the trunk ecomorph anoles, and as good at living on the tops of trees as the trunk-crown ecomorph anoles, etc.?
According to the natural selection model of evolution proposed
by the Darwin the nature selects the fittest species. The character
or traits that is suitable with the change in environment plays an
important role in the survival of a particular species. The species
of anoles in this case adapt to the changing environment. To
maintain the continuity of the species these anoles acquires
various characters of adaptation which helps these anoles to
survive such as the some species of anoles are as good to living on
Twigs, ecomorph anoles as the environmental condition or may be due
to the competition by the other species these anoles are adapted to
live in on the twigs. there are both biotic and abiotic factors
which determine the the adaptation or the direction of evolution.
In different Islands habitats there are different environment
conditions that is different range of temperature heat and
precipitation. These different environmental conditions leads to
different variations and adaptations.Yes it is possible for a
single anole species to be as good at living on Twigs as the twig
ecomorph anoles and as good at living on trunk as the ecomorph
anoles and as good at living on tops of trees as the trunk crown
ecomorph anoles. different environmental condition and inter
specific as well as intra specific brings variations and adaptation
in the characters and features of anoles.
Hence the statement is totally justified.
