A) SaCl53

B) PF62

C) CIF22

D) IF42

Solutions

Expert Solution

I think you have errorneously written the anions so I am giving as per norms

A. There is no such structure may be typo error

B. PF6- : Central atom phosphorus has 5 valence electrons and 1 extra for negative charge making total of 6

there are 6 F so there will be 6 P-F sigma bond hence the geometry will be octaheral

C. ClF2- :  Central atom Chlorine has 7 valence electrons and 1 extra for negative charge making total of 8

there are 2 F so there will be 2 Cl-F sigma bond leaving 6 electron which exist as 3 lone pair hence the geometry will be (2+3) hence the geometry will be trigonal bipyramidal and molecular shape will be linear

D. IF4- The electron geometry of IF4+ will be  octahedral and shape will be square planar.

Central atom Iodine has 7 valence electrons and 1 plus for negative charge making total of 8

there are 4 F so there will be 4 I-F sigma bond leaving 4 electron which exist as 2 lone pair hence the geometry will be (4+2)
