Historical/Situational Summary (500 – 800 words) – Present the context for your ethical problem. Outline the important historical events, attitudes, and policies that led up to your ethical problem. After reading this section we should be able to appreciate what the ethical problem is and what led to its occurrence. Write about the the boys soccer team from Thailand that got stuck in a cave that happened over the summer of 2018.
Tham PM revealed hw the boys had to be rescued by an expert diving team after being held underground for more than two weeks. Followed y this, they were reportedly given anti-anxiety drug to cope with their regular lives outside of the cave. They were shortly able to walk around freely and two of them had kung infections. Their parents were allowed to see them from a distance shortly after they were brought to the hospital. Ethical problems are therefore ones that have various elements of policy guidelines, historical events or attitudes in general to govern decision making. Therefore, to plan the rescue operation of this entire team too had various risk elements involved, which is why it is considered an ethical dilemma for the government. It is a matter of pride for the government to be able to pull through a successful rescue operation without any lags. Any single lag in the operation could have had devastating consequences in terms of putting the children's life at risk in very many ways. For instance, the rescue operation consisted of two divers around the children. This essentially required a great deal of psychological strength by the children since many of them would not have known swimming in the first place, let alone where diving equipment and jumping into the deep water beds. Certainly the traumatic experience would have been overwhelming for their fragile minds as well. Therefore, the stakes were really high in terms of making a final decision and providing a thumbs up for running such a complicated rescue operation.
