What are 2 potential research questions one might ask that relates to undetected rapist and predatory nature when conducting a research.
Before forming the question consider potential ethical or political issues related to the feasibility of investigating the questions.
Evaluate each question in terms of how it might:
Contribute to development of new knowledge;
lead to more effective practice interventions;
lead to social change;
be useful to other researchers
Two research questions that could be probed and prove to be quite useful regarding undetected rapists and predatory nature could be about the family history of the concerned subject/individual on whom these questions could be tested.
Family background is an important area to probe as it has the ability to prime, that too from a fairly nascent stage, the urges that we term as deviant sexual behaviors and predatory nature. It might sound quite prosaic, but most men who indulge in such deviant activities have had some experiences in the past with a few of their close family members that could be termed as far from ideal (usually mothers, sometimes (absent) fathers), which contribute to the (mis)interpretation of instances; hence, placing one on to the conduit of deviant behavior.
The next question that could be probed to further have an inkling into the heads of these criminals in to chart out how they think. That is, know how deviants think to be able to be a step ahead of them. Each predatory behavior has a pattern or a link. These pattern or link can be termed as 'ticks' that make the criminal tick and attack their victim. By the interviewing of people who have already been convicted of such crimes, a norm set could be involved of what women and how are the victims chosen - for the lack of a better word - by the criminals. Questions that do not directly hint at a women anatomy could be tactfully framed to understand and comprehend how some men differentiate and interpret women with respect to other men.
This form of probing could help chart out deviant preferences from normal preferences. It could further help in the development of subsequent research within the crime continuum.
Of course the same could be done in the cases wherein women are charged of such behavior as well. The questions would need to be politically correct in order to avoid penalization due to the extreme sensitivity that revolves around this particular issue, but all these components can be taken care of by the help of precision. These problems are mere hurdles that would slow down the process but do not stop it.
As far as the ethical concerns are, the questions that would be formed from understanding the previous convicts and phenomena; hence, care has to be taken to maintain anonymity in order to not affect the convicts rights, which are indeed limited but present nonetheless.
