Does Rh factor inheritance follow Mendelian genetics? If yes, which kind of dominance is it?
How can a fetus with Rh+ for a mother who is Rh- can be saved if he is the second baby for her?
1. No it is a non mendelian pattern of inheritance and it is a multiple allelism . The Rh factor system most polymorphic of all human blood group system comprised of more than 50 antigen . The Rh factor genetic information also inherited from our parents , but it is inherited independently of the ABO blood group type alleles.
2. In the second delivery the Rh antibody of mother recognise the Rh protein present in the surface of the baby's blood cell as a foreign ,and passes into baby's blood streme and attack those cells . The baby's count become dangerously low and this condition called Erythroblastosis foetalis. This can be overcome through an injection of medicine called Rh immune globulin can keep mothers body from producing Rh antibody . It helps the problem occuring due to Rh incompatibility. The injection of RhoGAM can be given 28 weeks of pregnant and second time after 72 hours after the baby is born.
