Answer is option B i.e Mitochondria
Cellular respiration take place in Mitochondria that is doble membrane bound structure. Mitochondria is also called powerhouse of the cell because it produces ATP.
Cellular respiration is an oxidative process in which free energy is released in the form of ATP from organic compounds like carbohydrates, fats, proteins etc. This free energy is required for the maintenance of body structure, cellular components synthesis, movement, generation of electrical current and for many others activities or processes.
This ATP not released in a single step it generated or released through a multitude steps in controlled manner.
During cellular respiration, respiratory substrate such as glucose undergo complete or incomplete oxidation.
Complete oxidation of substrate occur in the presence of oxygen which release CO2, water and large amount of free energy or ATP.
Incomplete oxidation of substrate occur in the absence of oxygen in which lesser amount of ATP generated than Complete oxidation of substrate.
So the main function of cellular respiration is the production of ATP which is necessary for all living organisms which is occur in mitochondria.
