Draw a schematic representation of a portal system. What is different with respect to the common arrangement that you will find in typical capillary beds? What is the function of portal systems and why do they require this peculiar arrangement?
Portal system can be characterized as a piece of the systemic circulation, in which blood depleting from the capillary bed of one structure moves through bigger vessels to supply the capillary bed of another structure, before coming back to the heart. Simply, an arrangement of veins that starts and finishes in vessels is called Portal system.
The portal flow goes from the digestive system of the stomach related tract to the liver.
The capacity of this portal system is to convey supplements from the stomach related tract to the liver after a dinner to store and process and they require this peculiar arrangement for that.
