Transverse waves on a string have wave speed 8.00 m/s, amplitude 0.0700 m, and wavelength 0.320 m. These waves travel in the x direction, and at t = 0 the x = 0 end of the string is at y = 0 and moving downward.
1)Find the frequency of these waves.
2)Find the period of these waves.
3)Write the equation for y(x,t) describing these waves.
4)Find the transverse displacement of a point on the string at x2 = 0.200 m at time t2 = 0.155 s .
Wave speed v = 8.00 m/s
Amplitude A = 0.0700 m
Wavelength = 0.320 m
1) Frequency = v/ = 8/0.32 = 25 Hz.
2) Time period T = 1/ = 1/25 = 0.04 s.
3) Equation of the wave
The -ve sign in the amplitude is due to the fact that these waves travel in the x direction, and at t = 0 the x = 0 end of the string is at y = 0 and moving downward.
4) From the equation of y(x,t) at x = 0.2 m and t = 0.155 s.
