Forget it, I figured it out on my own, S&H I figured everyone new that it was Shipping and Handling or that Circ. was circulation. Question was, is it profitable at .10%? 2nd question was How many units and what is the response rate needed to Breakeven? I'm sorry I thought I had all the information and thought the question was enough to understand. Sorry if confused hope that helped.

Explain how to get answers, excel would be great.

Facts:

• Circulation = 45mm FSI*

• $8/m circulation cost

• $25m ad production

• COGS = $40

• Fulfillment = $6.50

• Selling Price = $95

• Shipping & Handling = $6.50

* M = thousand, MM = million

Questions:

1. Is it profitable at 0.10% response rate?

2. How many units and what is the response rate needed to Breakeven?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer = As far as I have understand your doubt, I would like you to tell formula & methods to solve such question in case you have full information in hand.

1 = Gross Profit = Sales - Cogs (Where Sales = 95 * 45Million = 4275 Million, COGS = 40 * 45 Million = 1800Million)

Gross Profit = 4275MM - 1800MM = 2475MM

Gross Profit % = Gross Profit / Sales = 2475 MM/ 4275 = 57.89%

Since, we have break even response rate at 7.9%, So 10% Response rate would be profitable.

2 = So in order to find out the BREAK EVEN POINT (in units ), You need to follow given below formula =

Break Even Point (Units) = Fixed Cost / Selling price/ Unit - Variable Cost/ Unit (Where Selling price - Variable cost = Contribution). or

Break Even Point = Fixed cost / Gross profit margin

Here as per information you have provided, Fixed cost = 25000 = Ad production cost

Contribution = Sales - Variable cost

Where Variable cost = shipping & handling = 6.5, fulfillment cost = 6.50, circulation cost = 8

= 6.50 + 6.50 + 8 = $21

Contribution = 95 - 21 = 74.

Break even point ( units) = 25000 / 74 = 337.83 Units

Break Even Response Rate = 337.83 / 4275 = 7.9 %.

In case you have still any doubt, Please let me know in the comment section :).
