Which of the appraisal tool is being used in that retail store and what is its disadvantage?
The graphic rating scale is the method in which an employee’s performance is rated based on relative performance in specific areas in the retail store. Scales can be used to rate the behavioral elements that can be “understands the task” or they can be frequency such as “always” occasionally” “never” etc. In this the scale adapt by the supervisors is according to the business needs from worst to the best so based on the work the supervisors rate their employees if he is performing badly they will scale him “unsatisfactory” and if the employee is performing wonderfully they will rate him “outstanding”.
Disadvantages of the graphic rating scale are:
The disadvantage include how people evaluate scores and perception of ratings, feedback blocks, halo effect, and difficulty separating employees who are in the middle.
If a company is having 15 people then it needs 15 people to evaluate personnel, there may be 5 different rating scales. Some evaluators are strict and some are lenient, while others find it hard to screen personal agendas.
