I will choose polymer over steel for the cover of laptop apart from the fact that steel is stronger than polymer. The main reason would be:

1.The polymer will be a bad conductor of heat which makes it more robust in compared to steel and the cover won't heat up.

2.The polymer is also bad conductor of electricity it will never cause short circuit issue in case of power problems.

3. The cost of polymer will be less in compared to steel and can be easily moulded into required design , shaoesand color.

4.. The weight of polymer is less in compared to steel which makes laptop thinner and lighter which is a very handy property.
