Work is a

a) point function

b) path function

c) depends on the state

d) none of the mentioned

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans :-    path function

  • First we have to the concept of path ,point or state functions
  • In simple way that I was explained as below,

State function or point function :

  • State function or point function is one which depends on the particular state only .
  • It does not explain how it reaches that state.
  • Example:- Temperature, enthalpy, entropy …etc

path function :

  • Path function is the physical quantity whose values depend on the transition or proces of a system from the initial to the final state.
  • And it explains how it reached that state.
  • Examples:- Heat and Work.

Comment :

As we know that work is proposional to the distance ,means that it depends on the path used reach its final state, that’s why work can not be state function ….ok

Thank you..............................
