Architectural plans question: when reading the specifications of construction plans; the specification calls for anchor bolts that meet ASTM standard F1554 Grade 36, do these standards give the size of anchor bolts needed? In general what type of information does ASTM standardize ? (material and sizing?)
Anchor bolts are provided in three grades (36, 55, 105).. For ASTM F1554 Grade 36, the standard specifies Tensile Strength (58-80 ksi), Minimum Yield Strength (36 ksi) and Size range (1/4 - 4 inch). For the size range, it gives the Nominal diameter, Body Diameter and Threads per Inch in increments of 1/8 inch.
In General, the Standard Specifies the Method of Manufactuturing, the Material for each grade, Specifications for protective coatings, Chemical Composition for each grade, Mechanical properties like Tensile Strength, Yield strength, elongation; Bolt Dimensions ( Nominal Diameter, Body Diameter, Bend Section and bend angle, Length, Coated Length), Thread Dimensions ( Nominal Size and Threads per inch) and Inspection & Markng Requirements.
