Three players (A, B, and C) agree to divide the 13 pieces of
candy shown below by lining them up in order and using the method
of markers. The players' bids are as indicated.
Which items go to A?
Which items go to B?
Which items go to C?
Which items are left over?
Step 1: Locate the leftmost 1st marker (A1, B1, or C1). (If there is a tie, choose one randomly)
In this case, there is no tie player B gets 1st segment.
In this case, B gets 1 2 3
Now, since B has been assigned the segement, we remove all B's marker or ignore them in further allocation.
Step 2: Locate the leftmost second marker (A2 or C2) (If there is a tie, choose one randomly)
In this case, there is no tie player C gets 2st segment.
In this case, C gets 5 6 7
Step 3: The last player left gets her last segment.
Thus, player A gets last segment
In this case, A gets 10 11 12 13
Answer
A gets 10, 11, 12, and 13
B gets 1, 2, and 3
C gets 5, 6, and 7
Items left are 4, 8, and 9
