a)  A trade union is an association of employees/workers who formed with the object of improving the conditions of workers. It is formed for the welfare of employees and for protecting the interests of workers. Workers have little bargaining capacity when they are unorganized.

Although the trade union must be kept in mind, the trade union movement began against the exploitation of workers by certain managements under the system. The sole purpose of these unions is to look into the grievances and complaints of wagers and present a collective voice in front of the management. Hence, it acts as a bridge of communication between the workers and management. Regulation of relations, settlement of grievances, raising new demands on behalf of workers and negotiations are the other key principle functions that these trade unions perform.

b) Following are the responsibilities of trade unions:

  1. To educate the rank and file works so that the traditional agitational role be gradually transformed into one of understanding and co-operation. It also looks into the progress of the society constantly before then by way of refraining from the unnecessary strikes work stoppage. Education and awareness amongst labours so that a traditional way indulging into grave agitation can get the shape of cooperation and understanding. The development of the society or country should not be obstructed by virtue of unnecessary strikes and grave agitation. The employee is favourable to them but maybe unjust to the innocent customer that customer as well labour must be protected by a trade union.
  2. To protect the interests of the consumer which is usually lost sight by irregular practise of trade union between the parties and to discharge their role in the success of the schemes for the planned economic development of the country by maximising production and distribution inequitable manner.
  3. The rural and urban population comprises of unorganized labour which should be made organized by a trade union to uplift them and to get them above the poverty line because nowadays poverty issue is one of the larger issues and need to be resolved by trade union party. To promote the planned schemes and ideas for savings so that capital formation increases and awareness in society.

c)  Advantages of being a trade union member are :
