A television repair shop repair man finds that the time spent on his job has an exponential distribution with mean of 30 minutes. If he repairs sets in the order in which they come in and if the arrival of sets is distributed as poisson with an the average rate of 10 per eight hour day, how long must a typical customer wait before a set he drops off is ready to be picked up?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given Information:

Service Rate: 2 Televisions per hour or 16 Televisions per 8-hour shift

Arrival rate: 10 Televisions per 8-hour shift or 1.25 Televisions per hour

This is a case of Single Server Queuing model

We need to find out the time duration that customer has to wait before the tv set is ready to be picked up.

Following formula can be used to calculate the expected waiting time for a customer in the system:

Therefore, the time duration that customer has to wait before the tv set is ready to be picked up is 0.8333 hours
