Give an example of one situation that you are acquainted with that could be construed as an example of age discrimination. Explain how, if at all, the possible remedies for age discrimination provided in the text could have avoided the situation described in your example.

Discrimination refers to treat or proposing to treat someone in an unfavourable manner because of any personal characteristic protected by law. Bullying someone, not selecting someone are examples of discrimination.

Discrimination could take many forms. Gender discrimination, nationality discrimination, physical discrimination, anything. Age discrimination could be defined as the situation when unfavourableness is shown towards people because of their age factors and they are not being selected or are bullied for the same reason.

One example of age discrimination was when I went to a job interview to for sales department on feild job for a company. The recruitment manager selected me after 2-3 rounds saying i am a good and deserving candidate. On the other other, another female candidate was not selected from the group discussion and interview round because of the reason the manager gave because her age was more than 30 years old and she can't be the company's sales representative as per the company's norms and policies because they only hire young people as sales representative. This is a pure example of age discrimination that took place.

All the possible remedies if existed and practiced that could stop this situation to happen in the company would be to maintain a diverse workforce. A company should take care of all the discriminatory factors and try to maintain a diverse workforce where they include diversity at any form. Second could be the clearing of the sterotypes that above 30 years of women couldn't be a sales representative. It is totally wrong. Anyone could be anything depending upon their skills and capabilities which is the duty of the company itself to make that person understand and perform at their level best. At last, one should also understand the rules of hiring and recuritment. Nobody can just call of the meeting or send the person because of the age or any other discriminatory factor. This is totally illegal and a case could be filed by doing this. A company should understand the meaing of inclusive and the importance of diversity in its workforce and actions. A company should know if the person is 30 years old, how effectively they could position this place if the person has enabled skills to perform.
