Tristan is a lively little boy who attends daily day-care. He has severe allergies so his parents have not allo to receive the usual childhood vaccination series for fear of a severe reaction. For the last few days he has ha & swollen throat, fever & won't eat. Inside his mouth a greyish slime, a type of membrane, can be seen at the his throat . His parents take him to Urgent Care . 1. What's your disease diagnosis ? 2. What treatment should be used to combat the effects of toxemia? 3. Why would this tx be a particular challenge for this little boy?

Solutions

Expert Solution

  1. Since he has not received all vaccination in his childhood due to allergic reaction, which make him little more sensitive, and vulnerably against a number of common diseases due to comparatively weaker immune system as compared to a normal child. His symptoms suggest that he is suffering with strep throat or tonsillitis due to a pathogenic infection preferably due to Streptococcus spp (mostly due to pharyngitis) or due to viral agents.
  2. As he has not received vaccine earlier, so his body is not having proper immune for pathogen, which cause such infection through release of toxins and eventually make him sick due to lack of sufficient immunity against such agents. A course of antibiotics may require combating such bacterial infection along with medicins to treat elevated blood pressure due to infection (medicines for hypertension), please note that generally such situation does not occure in strep throat infection.
  3. As mentioned above, he is not having antibodies for toxin released by these pathogens that's why he is facing challenges. In case of children who have got all vaccination shot may face moderate symptoms and can recover easily compared to Tristan.
