Discharge
teaching to Mom and Dad on circumcision care
- Healing takes about 2 weeks.
- The wound will swell a little. Or it may bleed a little around
the incision.
- Your baby may cry at first when he urinates. That's normal
- Give your child pain relievers as instructed by your baby's
healthcare provider.
- Coat the sore area with petroleum jelly every time you change
your baby's diaper during the first 2 weeks.
- Use a soft washcloth and warm water to gently clean your baby's
wound if it has stool on it.
- Don't dry the wound with a towel. Let it air dry after
cleaning.
- You will probably see a crust of blood, where the foreskin was
removed. Don't rub off the crust or it may bleed.
- To help prevent infection, change your baby's diapers right
away after he urinates
Discharge
teaching to Mom and Dad cord care.
- Your baby’s umbilical cord will fall off in 7-10 days.
- It must be kept clean and dry.
- Fold your baby’s diaper below the stump so it’s exposed to the
air and not to urine
- Clean off the base of the stump with a cotton swab or gauze pad
dipped in a little bit of rubbing alcohol with each diaper change
to prevent infection,
- While waiting for the cord to heal, avoid tub baths until the
area heals completely
- In warm weather, keep your baby only in a diaper and T-shirt to
let air circulate and aid the drying process.
- Avoid bodysuit-style undershirts until the cord has fallen
off.
