Unbeknownst to Joe, his bout of enteritis severely injures his pancreas and he unknowingly has developed type 1 diabetes. Describe the disease progression that Joe went through before diagnosis and how he was treated.
Describe how caloric excess excess leads to disease
Question
The injury in pancreas of joe lead to very less or no production of insulin from beta cells. The beta cells secrete the hormone insulin that decreases the blood sugar. But due to injury, if insulin hormone is not produced at optimum level it lead to the diabetes 1 disorder. Also, at the time of injury, immune system that fight for the infection would also destroy beta cells of pancreas along with the foreign particles.
The treatment of this disorder include taking :
I. Insulin therapy : the insulin hormone is given to the Joe.
II. Taking proper diet: the diet should not include any sugar rich food.
III. Maintaining healthy weight: Joe should maintain a normal weight that help him to maintain normal insulin level.
Too much of calories in the diet increases the risk of diabetes I as excessive calories lead to excess fat in the liver and therefore liver respond poorely to the hormone insulin and produce highly amount of glucose. This high amount of glucose lead to increase risk of diabetes.
