Clara is a clerk at a retail outlet. She earns $35,000 a year. She is allowed to work her schedule around her daughter's school athletic events, and because she has seniority over the other clerks, rarely has to work holidays.
Jeff is a new designer for an engineering firm. He earns $75,000 a year. He must be at the office Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5:00. His wife attends all their children's school events. His job is stressful, and if a project is due, he often works weekends and sometimes holidays, although from home.
How would you compare Clara and Jeff's levels of job satisfaction? Describe how you would measure their satisfaction and name at least three major job attitudes that play a part in each of their satisfaction levels
The three major job attitues are Job satisfaction, Job involvement and the organizational committment. More or less they all represent the same thing as the person is liking the job or not. Job satisfction is about having a positive or negative feeling about the job. Job Involvement is the level of involvement a person has in his or her job and how much they identify with the job relvance and their importance in the organization. Organizational committment comes when a person want to stay in the job because he or she likes the organization's vlaue, culture and job environment.
Based on this if we analyze the Job of the Clara and Jeff the information given would not be sufficient to come at very conlcusive remark but if we generalize the facts then the work environments at the clara's workplace is something which would foster the positive job attitudes given the freedom and flexibility. However the Jeff may be having neagtive job attitude because of the less freedom and long work hours which will leave him with very little time to do other things in his life such as limited social life will bring in further stress and he will further develop negative attitude.
