Describe what we mean by ‘conditional strategy.’ Describe what we mean by ‘optimal behavior.’ (Don’t give examples of an animal using conditional strategy or optimal behavior, rather actually describe conditional strategy and optimal behavior). Describe, with the use of a specific example, how conditional strategy and optimal behavior “interact” for a group of males of a given species that can choose among alternate mating tactics when attempting to mate.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Conditional strategy- it is a theoretical madeup in which individuals of populations which exists show alternative behavioral, physical , phenotypes, and life history. These strategies are only adopted under certain conditions. This could due to the gender roles or multiple morphs for differrent strategies.

Optimal behavior- This defines the costs and benefits of the decision taken to maximize the difference between actions taken regarding evolutionary considerations. These are the actions performed when specific circumstances of optimization problems occur.

Example- Reverse gender role of aggression with high male parental care.

Conditional strategy during which males of a given species that can choose among alternate mating tactics when attempting to mate are-

Like males used to camouflage themselves via differrent techniques like choosing differrent background colurs, foraging time, signalling frmales with different set of pheromones etc.Body colour of males, is also often seen as prevailing conditional strategy.

Optimal behavior during mating tactis is also important.Like if organisms are showing exact same behavior towards the females while random mating. This could also result in no tactics being applied. So for good results, the optimal behavior regarding the techniques that are being adopted by males is very necessary.
