It is June 6, 2023. Your coop student at Boom Boom Energy Corporation has found correlations for (1) methane / (2) dodecane liquid diffusion coefficients and and asks which one to use in designing a gas absorber. What would be your response?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Diffusion is used to move the gasto the liquid surface which in turn effects in the absorption of the gas at the liquid surface. The more liquid to gas interactions are caused to occur due to this kind of gas absorption at the liquid surface.

As per the given query, correlations for (1) methane/ (2) dodecane liquid diffusion coefficients are known. Let us assume, that the ratio for the diffusion coeffecients of the above is C; i.e. (1) methane/ (2) dodecane liquid diffusion coefficients= C.

Thus, if C>1, then methane can be used as a gas absorber, and if, C<1, dodecane can be used as a gas absorber.
