As a lab instructor in machining, you are required to
prepare a lab module for a
laboratory session with your students. In this session, the
students are required to
produce aT-Slot. Prepare the methodology to produce the T -Slot
with
illustrations for the lab module.
1. The position of the T-slot is laid out on the workpiece.
2.The throat depth is determined by considering the thickness of the workpiece and the maximum and minimum dimensions allowable.
3. A side milling cutter or an end milling cutter is then selected.
4.The cutter should be of proper size to mill a slot equal in width to the throat width prescribed for the T-slot size desired. Cut a plain groove equal to about 1/16 inch less than the combined throat depth and head space depth.
5. Select a T-slot milling cutter for the size T-slot to be cut. T-slot milling cutters are identified by the T-Slot bolt diameter and remanufactured with the proper diameter and width to cut the head space to the dimensions .
6.Position the T-slot milling cutter over the edge of the workpiece and align it with the previously cut groove.
7.Feed the table longitudinally to make the cut. Flood the cutter and workpiece with cutting oil during this operation. Figure shows a T-slot milling cutter and dimension locations for T-slots.
