Death from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis usually results from respiratory infection secondary to compromised respiratory function.

II. Name three each of unencapsulated and encapsulated sensory receptors and tell what they are used for.

III. What would be the advantage of having a nerve come from a spinal nerve plexus? Explain, using an example of such a nerve and a potential damage to it.

Question 1

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is also called Gehrig disease. It is the neuromuscular disease. This condition characterized by progressive destruction of motor neurons in the lateral horn and the pyramidal tracts. In advanced condition the disease leads to loss or difficulty in breathing, speaking, swallowing. The lungs are unable to expand completely, increased respiratory secretions and difficulty in respiration and respiratory infection. All these conditions may lead to death.

Question 2

The unencapsulated sensory receptor nerve endings are

S.No

Receptor

Use

1

Nociceptors

Response to Pinching, Chemical damaged tissue

2

Thermoreceptors

Response to cold and heat

3

Light receptors

Response to touch and light. It consists of hair receptors.

The encapsulated sensory receptor nerve endings are

S.No

Receptor

Use

1

Joint kinesthetic receptors

Response to stretch of the articular capsule

2

Muscle spindles

Response to muscle stretch

3

Pacinian corpuscles

Response to vibration and deep pressure

4

Meissner's (tactile) corpuscles

Response to discriminative touch

5

Golgi tendon receptors

Stretch in tendons

COVID-19 is a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. This coronavirus infection results in an acute respiratory infection that can lead to viral pneumonia and end-organ failure. CoV-2 is a RNA virus (single stranded RNA genome) that specifically targets cells in the lungs that express the ACE2 receptor. Answer the three related questions regarding a mucosal immune response to SARS-CoV-2: 1. Which antibody class would you expect to encounter CoV-2 and which T effector T cell would activate B cells? As the...

Bacteriology: 1. Adaptive immunity occurs when.. A) death results from pathogen infection. B) the innate immune response is overly effective. C) a broad, rapid response is needed to a wide range of pathogens from the body regardless of the specific type of pathogen. D) the innate immune response fails to eliminate pathogens in the body and virulent infections persist after the initial innate defense response. 2. Stem cells are produced and developed in the.. By definition, an infection results from a parasitic relationship between a microbe and its host.  That is, harm is being done to the host. Inapparent infection (also called subclinical, or asymptomatic infection) does not result in overt disease. How is it possible for an infection not to result in overt disease?
