If you were to hire an operations manager for your chosen business (assume that your business has scaled in size so that you would need an ops manager), what would their duties be, and what skills and abilities would you have been looking for when you hired them? Be sure to cite.
Duties of operation manager in an automobile
industry:
1) The person should be responsible for the overall manufacturing
process
2) Responsible for machine maintenance, repair, introduction of new
machines and supervision of production lines.
3) Responsible for minimizing waste in the production process by
bringing continuous improvement in Lean.
4) Responsible for assisting managers providing training to the
shop floor employees.
5) An operation manager is responsible for meeting production cost
and control consumption of tools and accessories.
6) Responsible for managing other key leaders within various
departments and direct people to accomplish their individual tasks
in order to achieve company goals.
Skills and Abilities:
1) Negotiating Skills: An operation manager must have strong
negotiation skills that will help him to negotiate a deal with a
prospective client.
2) Financial Management Skills: He must have good financial
management skills to work with the leaders of finance department.
An operation manager must know how to utilize the sanctioned money
in order to get maximum profit out of it.
3) Conflict Management Skills: An operation manager must have the
conflict management skill to minimize the conflicts within the
organization. He must know how to bring people together and
encourage them to work collaboratively.
4) People Management Skills: An operation manager must have the
skill to manage people in an effective way. There are different
types of people in different departments, in order to increase
production efficiency, it is necessary to bring people in a single
line of thread. So while hiring an operation manager I would look
for people management skill along with other skills.
