Invitation to Go Elsewhere

“So, what do you want?” Marge gruffly asked the elderly man on the other side of the counter at the ice cream shop. “Well, I'm not sure yet,” Howard said, as he looked at his grandson and granddaughter, who were trying to make up their minds. Marge rolled her eyes and frowned, went off to visit with a coworker, and ignored the group. “Why won't she get our ice cream?” asked the granddaughter after making up her mind. “Did we do something wrong?” “No, sweetie,” said Howard. “I think we'll just go to the ice cream shop down the street.”

This does not seem like an Accounting related question. Still am trying to give an answer to the best of my knowledge

  1. No. Marge was not displaying effective customer relations. The duty of the customer relation personnel is to assist the customers and aid them in what is required by them. It is necessary that the person handling the customers should be calm minded and not perturbed because of the customers taking time to decide on what their specific requirements are. Marge's attitude towards Howard will be frowned upon by the Ice cream shop owner/manager since they have lost a prospective customer. Furthermore, it projects a bad image of the shop to Howard and the people to whom Howard would casually pass on the information.

  1. Marge should have ideally assisted Howard in picking the right flavours wanted by his grandson and granddaughter. Marge could have even suggested the best flavours that their shop has. In this way, Howard would have proceeded to buy the required ice creams. Further, Howard would perceive a positive image about the shop, thereby frequenting the shop and suggest the shop to other people. This is how customer relations are built with people.

  1. Marge has costed her company prospective future revenue by fending of a customer who might eventually advice other people to not visit the ice cream shop because of this particular reason.
