You dive straight down into a pool of water. You hit the water with a speed of 5.0 m/s , and your mass is 70 kg.

Assuming a drag force of the form FDFD = (−1.50×104 kg/s )v, how long does it take you to reach 2% of your original speed? (Ignore any effects of buoyancy.)

Expert Solution

The concept used is of basic force balance and method of solving first order differential equation , initially i balance the forces and after simplify the equation , i found that the obtained equation is of first order linear differential equation , then i apply the method of solving first order equation and finally i calculated the time at which it's velocity becomes half to that of it's initial velocity.

Objects that move in a straight line with a constant speed—not speeding up or slowing down—have zero acceleration. We call this kind of motion: Uniform Motion. We can identify uniform motion when the object travels equal distance intervals in equal times. We can identify non-uniform motion, or accelerated motion, when the object travels equal distance intervals in unequal times. Finally, we have two types of non-uniform motion: motion with constant acceleration and motion with a non-constant (or changing) acceleration. Activity...

Ripples in a pool travel at a speed of 0.643 m/s. When someone agitates the water at one end you watch the ripple travel to the far end, reflect, and come back to that person in a total of 26.81 seconds. How far away is that other end of the pool?

I am playing pool and i hit a trick shot. I hit the ball at an angle 55 degrees. with a force of 10 newtons for .4seconds. The ball ihas a radius of 0.05m and a mass of .150kg. and the coeeficient of kinetic friction is 0.3. 1) determine the initial linear and angular velocity after i hit the ball? determine the distance the ball travels after it it and before it goes back? Determine the final velocity? answer all.

Pool players often pride themselves on their ability to impart a large speed to a pool ball. In the sport of billiards, event organizers often remove one of the rails on a pool table to allow players to measure the speed of their break shots (the opening shot of a game in which the player strikes a ball with his pool cue). With the rail removed, a ball can fly off the table. As the only participant with a physics...

A lamp is installed at the bottom of a pool filled with water. The pool has depth d. The lamp produces light rays in all directions, but light only escapes from the top surface of the water within a circular region which has diameter D. (a) Explain why this effect occurs? (b) If the depth of the pool is 50 cm. Find the diameter D.

You drop a package from a plane flying at constant speed in a straight line. Without air resistance, the package will. (Hint: think about the velocity along the x direction, think about what type of motion you have along x direction). A) quickly lag behind the plane while falling. B) remain vertically under the plane while falling. C) move ahead of the plane while falling. D) not fall at all.
