Hildegard von Bingen was a German theologian, composer and medical aid during the 1098-1179 period. She was not of noble birth or any other importantfamily that drew her to her success and popularity. It was on her own that she succeded. She became a nun at the young age of 15 and statrted to open monestries after that,
She was suffering from a terrible migrane which led her to experience visions which were recorded. She believed that visions were confirming what the religios texts had to say and started to document them in a recorded work called the SCIVIAS.
Due to these visions Hildegard produced major works of theology and visionary writings about her visions. This got her recognized as she was one of the few identifiable women artists of the Middle Ages. She was also famous for writing sacred music and compsing them. She wrote a play called Ordo Virtutum about medieval morality.
She also proceeded to write about natural history and medicine called the Liber simplicis medicinae (Simple Book of Medicine) in 1160 which helped many people to use natural remedies to cure themselves.
In a time where women were not a great deal and the world was run by men she accomplished a great deal to the extent that she advised and consulted with bishops and kings. These accomplishments gave Hildegard of Bergen the name of the 'Sibyl of the Rhine'
