The U.S. does not have federal laws mandating paid sick leave for employees, but there is a major push from workers' rights groups to make it mandatory. A few cities and states have passed laws making paid sick leave a non-discretionary benefit for certain types of employees. What are the pros and cons for employers and employees of paid sick leave? Do you think it should be a non-discretionary benefit for everyone?
Paid sick leave is giving to an employee who is medically ill.
Pros for employees: Employees are getting paid for not working is the best pro of the paid sick leave. Even though sometimes if employee isn't sick he or she can provide fake documents and take a sick leave. And if employee doesn't take any paid sick leave then the can cash out payment for those leaves (in some organization only).
Cons for employees: If some employee provides fake documents for leave and get caught. He or she might create serious or themselves in the organization. Employer would never sanction their sick leave again and they might lose trust of their organization.
Pros for employer: As employer is providing paid sick leave, they are making their employees happy which gives better result in their performance. Paid sick leave gives employer control over unsanctioned absence of the employees. Paid sick leave attracts new comers as a new facility provided by an employer
Cons for employer: Employees might abuse the use of paid sick leave and provide fake documents. Vacation may overlap with paid sick leave. It could demoralize employees to take advantage of system.
I think paid sick leave should be a benefit for everyone because it gives employees chance to relax and might increase overall productivity.
