How and why is the plasma from recovered patients used as a one of the potential treatments for Infected covid-19 patients? Knowing this, think about how to make a vaccine against covid-19. Possibly substitute the virus for diphtheria? why do we need booster doses of the diphtheria vaccines?

answer: In a response to the virus our immune system tries to combat it by producing antibodies. These antibodies are produced only in the patients who have been affected by COVID 19 as a body response. Now these antibodies secreted by B cells of our immune system helps in fighting the virus.

Convalescent plasma therapy has been tried as a treatment for covid19 patients. The plasma of these patients who have recovered ample amount of antibodies which had helped them in fighting this virus. Now in infected patients where the immune system is not able to combat this virus the plasma of the recovered patient containing these antibodies can be used to kill this virus.

Well in case of Diphtheria the purified diphtheria protein or toxin is used as inactivated toxoid vaccine, In case COVID 19 the membrane spike protein extract can be used for vaccine preparation , or the RNA material can also be used as component for eliciting immunity. Many experiments are even going on the use of live atttenuated virus for vaccine.

Diphtheria vaccine doesnot produces a life long immunity against this it. By using booster doses we can boost our immunity for a few more 10 years against diphtheria.
