Intervention means in between treatments given apart from medicines or drugs during an illness and is known as non-drug intervention.

examples of non drug interventions of depression.

Non-pharmacological interventions include formal psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), as well as less formal supportive therapies such as counselling within primary care, mindfulness-based therapy, behavioural activation and self-help strategies. Lifestyle changes to improve diet, exercise, relaxation and sleeping habits should also be part of a broader management plan. These changes can help prevent relapse after recovery.

Substance abuse is when you take drugs that are not legal. It's also when you use alcohol, prescription medicine, and other legal substances too much or in the wrong way. Substance abuse differs from addiction. Many people with substance abuse problems are able to quit or can change their unhealthy behavior.

Providing health teaching for client and family. Clients and family members need facts about the substance, its effects, and recovery.

Addressing family issues. Without support and help to understand and cope, many family members may develop substance abuse problems of their own, thus perpetuating the dysfunctional circle; treatment and support groups are available to address issues of family members.

Promoting coping skills. Nurses can encourage clients to identify problem areas in their lives and to explore the ways that substance use may have intensified those problems.

Risk factors. Factors that increase the likelihood of beginning substance use, of regular and harmful use, and of other behavioral health problems associated with use.

Protective factors. Factors that directly decrease the likelihood of substance use and behavioral health problems or reduce the impact of risk factors on behavioral health problems.
